We need to agree a programme to naintain momentum

Paul*Events Programme*I think that we should be putting together programme of events for therest of the year together. This is what all other SG's do, maintainingmomentum but getting dates into attendees busy diaries. As I've said before, I also think we should take a strategic view, looking at our stated goals and determining what topics we should cover. We should then try to find speakers for those topics rather than findingspeakers and then trying to work out a topic for them. In doing so, weneed to remember that one of our key goals is to educate those who knownothing about Open Source.Paul has set up a place to have this discussion on the Wiki but I cannotsee a mechanism for being notified when someone has posted? If thatmechanism doesn't exist then perhaps we need to have the discussion viaemail? Can we agree how we are going to do this, so we can get on with it.*The Book*I'd like to have a similar discussion on the book and again simply wantto agree a mechanism to get things rolling.I would be grateful if all of you could respond - I wrote almost exactlythe same email just after the last meeting but didn't see a single reply.GaryPS I have been invited along to the UKUUG committee meeting - they wantto talk about how we could collaborate in the futurepadams1 wrote:>Dear all,>>I can't help but feel that things have lost momentum somewhat, since the meeting in London. After a flurry of activity on the website, things now seem a bit too quiet.>>Now that the communication and collaboration infrastructure is in place, I think we really need to focus on what events are going to happen over the next year and, in particular, the next 5 months for which we are all responsible. The new workgroup support will also allow for other activities to work concurrently with the event planning. So if the OSS book is still on the cards, people can work on that if they wish.>>Today, I'll be adding a chat tool to the website. This is mainly for the benefit of the workgroups, but could also be used for other events. I'll also be creating a Mailman-based mailing list which will be the announcements list for the group. There are currently about 120 folk registered with the website and I think we have to keep them all informed about what's going on and where we are going. Finally, I'll be adding all of the committee to the "events" workgroup, with Patrick and Gary as the workgroup leaders.>>>Paul>>original: http://ossg.bcs.org/organisation/discussion/committee/37865032523>_____________________________>"Committee Forum" http://ossg.bcs.org/organisation/discussion/committee>"BCS Open Source Specialist Group" http://ossg.bcs.org>>>
