Website Update
Dear all,
Based on feedback that I've been getting from you and from members of the group, I have decided to give the website a bit of an overhaul. The main reasons are:
* Only the committee use the collaboration stuff and the support has become too complex
* Members of the group find it difficult to find some of the info they're looking for
* At some point I'm not going to be webmaster any more and Zope/Plone are difficult tools if you don't have the experience. I'd rather leave behind a system that looks after itself and needs little maintenance.
My solution to these problems is twofold:
* Create a new public-facing website which is simple and presents everything the members need to know (info on events, news, registration etc)
* Create a stripped down collaboration environment for the committee
I've put together a simple example of what the new public website may look like and would really like to get the committee as a whole to agree on what would be useful for us. Most of the functionality ideas have been borrowed from other SG websites. My example site can be found at: http://hemswell.lincoln.ac.uk/~padams/temp/
The site is valid XHTML 1 strict and valid CSS. As a result, it would be handy if people could tell me how it appears in their browsers. I've been looking at it in Firefox, Lynx and IE and it seems to display OK. If anybody is using older browsers or Opera it would be good to hear what you think.
When looking at the site please don't use any of the following...
* Event registration
* Add News
* Add Events
..they work, but only just.
Best regards,
Paul
