Paul
Looking from the outside the Requirements Engineering SG model seems to work quite well where they have a Publicity Officer. However others within that group are clearly involved in this. For example input into the RESG Newsletter.
What I would like to see is the group sending out its own Press Releases and this is where another set of hands could really help. Like you I have many other committments and so I have to place a time limit on my OSSG activities. So far I've managed to balance things out, but this next event so far appears to be proving difficult to attract the interest perhaps Peter expected. Therefore it would seem at the monent that it really does need a big effort by all the Committee to make others aware of it.
In my view it is absolutely vital to get out announcements and reminders about up and coming events. If you want I can take this on this side of the AGM as I appreciate with work and relocation issues that you are going to have less time free to devote to OSSG.
I suspect the new style BCS events webpage is not helping matters, because it is much more diffcult to see at a glance BCS events for any particular month. Also the new style BCS eNewsletter no longer lists up and coming BCS events, which is not very helpful either. In addition the listing in Computer Weekly may not appear until the week before a BCS event is meant to take place. This is due to limited space devoted to BCS events in that publication. All this leaves Computing as the only likely place one is likey to notice one of our events advertised by the BCS.
Cheers
