Introduction

Mon, Nov 21st 2005 00:15 Posted by linuxgirlie

Hi,

I have just joined BCS and now this Open Source group. I thought I would introduce myself, but after looking at the members list I know quite a few names, so it would probably be best off to say look at my info page.

I think I will mainly be staying in this forum as it’s my ‘chosen subject’, so to speak, but may venture out sometimes if I feel brave.

It seems a bit quiet on these forums, and I was wondering what it was that people were hoping to do, we have a lot of knowledgable people in one place but noone is talking

Thats all from me,

Jo

Having looked at your info page I make the assumption that the existence of OSSG was an important factor in your decision to join the BCS. I further assume that you see value in the Forums as basically Education through Communication.

I for one have very limited knowledge about what Open Source software is used or is planned to be used in UK schools. Therefore it would be great if you could post your views/knowledge about this topic onto this discussion Forum.

    Thanks for your reply.

I had actually seen the BCS before I realised there was an open source arm, and was considering joining but decided not to at that time. A link to this website did re-kindel my interest though and I paid my membership once I read though all the paper-work!!

I do see not just this forum but alot of forums and mailing lists as education though communication, over the years I have learnt a lot more discussing then I would ever of done reading a book. I also believe that with the Internet more of an impact can be made, as more people can communicate and be involved whilst being miles apart.

    hi jo,
i joined this group sometime back and now really like the way they work. i am a newbie to open source but when i read comments from people like urself, i feel confident that i’ll be able to enjoy my learning here.
i know not many people r posting on these pages but i think that situation is gonna improve soon. i attended the last meeting at the bcs headquarters and really liked it!
